Parent-led is a term used to define homeschooling in the traditional sense of the word, where the parent is the teacher of all content. As the roles of home education are changing, AHS Worldwide seeks to meet parents who need to be the guide or simply be well-connected with the learning happening online and with AHS teachers and mentors—thus the addition of student- and teacher-led offerings now in development.

Yes, of course! Because Family School and Micro School students follow the same scope and sequence for math, language arts, history, science, and literature, families with students enrolled in both programs can follow along together in either program.

We are not likely to produce teacher videos for HeartStart Preschool. At this age, a parent’s involvement is most necessary to facilitate the tactile experiences used throughout this resource.

Character Core courses include the K–8 courses AHS Worldwide has developed to help parents teach multiple children of various ages, together. This was all Family School included for many years—history, science, geography, literature, art, and music. Each of lesson plan of any Character Core course is intentionally designed to make genuine connections to principles of the Restored Gospel in each lesson plan—thus the category name—Character Core.

You will find StudentGo videos in about 50% of the current K–8 Character Core courses for early and upper elementary students. All middle school videos are available within the AHS Worldwide Micro School offering. You can identify a course that provides StudentGo videos by the video icon next the course name in the course catalog. Simply open a course within any subject to see which courses have the video icon. Then click on the course to see the Table of Contents with links to each lesson plan. After clicking on a lesson plan, you’ll be provide two options—parent-led lesson plans (two lengths) and StudentGo videos (two learning levels).

About 50% of our K–8 “Character Core” courses include StudentGo instructional videos that accompany each respective parent lesson plan. We hope to provide these videos for all Character Core courses for early elementary and upper elementary levels, however, the timeline and funding for the project is undecided. We do not plan to create StudentGo videos for our preschool or high school level courses in Family School.

YES! In fact, this is exactly what we have in mind for younger siblings and families who want to stay connected on a similar scope and sequence for the year. Elementary age students can follow the same sequence and similar scope (although on their level) for the history, science, and literature middle school Micro School students are studying throughout the year, because Family School history, science, and literature were used as the framework and scripts for the middle school instructional videos.

Most fundamentally, Micro Schools are led by a coach and allow students to learn together with a cohort of other students, while Family Schools are led by parents—sometimes in small groups of families, but most often as a single family. Micro School students also receive various accredited services, including grading/feedback on assignments and assessments, open math and writing labs, term/semester grade cards, and many other social and academic events, activities, and competitions.

Family School provides ready-made lessons for parents to use to teach multiple children of various ages together in subjects like history, geography, science, literature, art, and music. While Micro Schools provide students with recorded teacher video instruction and a synchronous learning experience facilitated by an American Heritage Micro School coach. Micro School students have access to many other academic, social, and extra-curricular events and activities.

The virtual gathering for each Micro School class will start at the same time, each day, and it will initially be set for 8:45 a.m. in member’s respective time zone (Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific). However, before school, we will be doing an orientation with each Micro School class—one with the parents and another just with the students. During that orientation, we will ask the parents if they collectively would like their virtual gathering time to be at a different time. If the majority want a different time, then we will manually change this time for the entire class.

Invariably, there will be families who want to attend at a different time than we have automatically set, or that has been adjusted to accommodate the majority following the orientation mentioned above. When this is the case, families can choose to move to a new Micro School that is starting at or close to the time they prefer. They will be able to view all availability based on this gathering start time, and can move their student(s) to a Micro School that is gathering at their preferred time. However, if they move to a different Micro School, it is important that parents understand that their student(s) will not be participating in the Micro School that is the most proximal to their address.

Microschool content and course work is completed one unit at a time and available at your predetermined class time every Monday through Thursday. Each unit is 8 lesson (two weeks) and student rotate through science, history, literature, health, and skills courses one unit at a time throughout the year (see calendar above).

Micro Middle School students will enjoy the following 2024/25 curricular offering.

Note: The skills course offering above is not 100% determined. The actual offering may change, but this can be used as an example of the types of skills courses we are developing. Each Skills course is one, two-week unit (eight lessons). Students will choose from the Skills library of courses during four two-week units throughout the year.

AHS Micro School tuition is $109/month per student if paying monthly. The billing term for 2024–25 tuition is June 2024 through May 2025. If enrolled in June, you will make 12 payments on the day of the month in which you enrolled. If paying tuition in full before school begins, you will receive a 20% discount, and pay a total tuition of $1046.40 for the year.

If a student enrolls after June 2024, but before school begins, the tuition will be prorated for the number of months of payment through May of 2025.

  • June Enrollment: $109/month over 12 months
  • July Enrollment: $118.91/month over 11 months
  • August Enrollment: $130.80/month over 10 months

If a student enrolls after the beginning of the school year, their tuition will be automatically prorated for the number of days of school remaining. The pro-rated tuition will be divided into the number of months remaining, with the final payment due in May. Specific totals are individual and will be shown on your final checkout screen.

Enrollment indicates an agreement to pay these financial obligations, whether or not the student remains active or enrolled.

EXAMPLE: The Smith family enrolled their daughter Jane on October 28th. Her tuition would be = (100 days remaining/128 days of school total) * full tuition of $1308 = $1021.87.  The family has 8 months to pay this total, so they will pay $127.73 per month, starting on the day they enrolled.

The new Micro School offering was priced as affordably is possible for all families—existing and new. No previous discounts provided for LiftEd will apply to the new Micro School service.

Refund Policy: Students may be unenrolled at any time from with a parent’s online profile/account. The parent is responsible for making any changes to their student’s account status from the enrollments tab of their Micro School account. Email or phone notices sent by the parent to unenroll their student or close their account will not constitute cause for a refund in any amount.  

Upon unenrollment of a student, if parent qualifies for a refund (see criteria below), an automatic refund will be posted to their financial institution within 5–7 business days. Refunds are based on the following:

  • Grace Period: Enrollments cancelled before July 31st, 2024 will be fully refunded.   
  • Tuition Paid in Full: Refund is calculated based on percentage of days attended times 80% of tuition paid. The first 20% of tuition paid is non-refundable.  
  • Tuition Paid Monthly: No refunds are provided.  

REFUND EXAMPLE: The Smith family enrolled their daughter Jane in July and paid up front to receive a 20% discount. They paid $1046.40 for her tuition. In December, after the last day of class before Christmas break, they decided to unenroll Jane. She was enrolled for 39.8% of the school days of the year. She will receive a reimbursement of 60.2% (days not attended) • 80% (refundable portion) • $1046.40 (tuition paid) = $503.94. 

Each Micro School student will have access to all levels of I Master Math and I Love Language. If the default course for their grade is too high or too low, they can change their course level at any time. For lower levels than level 5, students will access the curriculum through the Family School platform. I Master Math and I Love Language has not been developed for levels 9–12, however.

In-person gatherings for Micro School students takes on many shapes, forms, and sizes for each family and for each Micro School. Proximity is the most significant changing variable for most families. When there is closer proximity for in-person gathering, Micro School students and families naturally gather more regularly for extension learning, project work, and end-of-unit “Celebrations.” Where proximity is the highest, we’ve seen Micro School students gathering daily, even, at a families home for the daily coach-led discussions.

Gatherings are typically organized by each respective Micro School parent leadership group, but occasionally students and families organically connect with and plan activities. Except for our annual youth retreat and other regional events (coming soon), in-person gathering is completely managed by Micro School parents and students.

Students rotate through five general subject areas—a new unit every two weeks. Subject areas include history (4 units), science (4 units), literature (2 units), health (2 units), and skills (4 units). Math and language arts courses are entirely student-led, so students may move at their own pace and schedule. The unit approach allows students to cover material with much greater depth and breadth, while also facilitating a “project-based” learning experience for each unit.

During 2024/25 the Micro School experience will be provided only for middle school students (grades 6–8). Parents may request an exception for 5th and 9th grade students, however. All exception requests should be sent to galldredge@ahsworldwide.org.

Yes, it is our plan to expand the Micro School offering to include elementary school students at two learning levels—early elementary and upper elementary for Character Core courses and grade-level instruction for math and language arts. The course offering for these elementary levels would be very similar, without the focus on skills development, as it is for middle school.

Upper elementary students would likely gather for daily, live, coached classes and use the same interactive learning platform as middle school students. However, the services provided at this level would not be the same. Parents would do more of the assessment/grading/feedback, but would have tools within the platform to do this effectively and quickly.

Lower elementary students may have a very similar experience, too, but will be determined based on demand at a later date.

Micro School supplemental and supporting resources include printable resources (i.e., handouts, instructions), supplies/materials, and recommended literature. Printable resources are available for self-download and print. Other suggested supplies, materials, and literature are organized by unit for simple preparation and purchase.

Once posted, all lessons may be accessed to complete as a class, independently, or to review after completed.

The Micro School platform works well within all major browsers, although we recommend Chrome. The platform is designed for all platforms (mobile, tablet, laptop, desktop). A desktop or laptop is preferred, but newer model tablets and touch screen Chromebooks also work very well.

Digital and online safety is an especially important part of the Micro School experience. We are doing everything we can to ensure that students have a positive and safe experience while using the platform to access content and connect with other students. These safety measures include the following:

  1. Parents may audit the live class at any time.
  2. Parents can review all messages to and from their student(s) in the messaging application.
  3. Parents are notified when student creates or joins a private meeting room.
  4. Parents can disable chat and meeting room functionality for students.
  5. Any external videos from YouTube are embedded and locked to prevent students from going to YouTube from video embedded in any lesson or clicking on any other recommended videos from the Micro School video player.
  6. Students have a “Report” button throughout the experience to close a live meeting room and report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior.
  7. Students participate in annual “Foundations Training,” which includes a segment on responsible and safe technology use as well as a review of the school’s honor code that all students must agree to follow to participate.

Ultimately, it is the parent’s continued modeling and communication with children that will have the greatest impact in helping children to be successful as they develop in the digital world in which they live. We provide will provide a platform and experience that can help children to develop the tools and skills to thrive in an online world, especially from an early age before challenges increase.

Absolutely! If you have a group that is already organized, you may work with AHS Worldwide support to create a custom Micro School group and lesson start time.

Yes, you can, but only the Micro School student who is enrolled is allowed to attend the daily, live, coached class and to receive the other accredited services provided.

Yes, you can, as long as each student is enrolled in the AHS Micro School program. All students are automatically enrolled into a Micro School class based on their proximity, but you may choose to not attend the live coached class and instead complete the lesson material independently or with another group virtually or in-person.

IMPORTANT: If you are providing your own coaching in a cooperative, academy, or other formal in-person or virtual learning community, please contact galldredge@ahsworldwide.org to receive the self-coached; self-administered, Micro School pricing of $54.50/mo/student (minimum of five students required). Students will have access to all Micro School content, but will not be included in the daily Coached class, feedback/grading, or math/writing labs. They will be invited to participate in all other social and academic events, activities, and competitions, however.

Absolutely! However, be aware that if they complete a module before your middle school student has completed it, the platform will indicate that the lesson and/or module is complete. That said, you are welcome to share any content your middle school student has access to with younger (or older) children.

Yes. Parents enrolling a Micro School student will automatically receive a complimentary, Unlimited Membership to Family School, which will remain active for as long as one Micro School student is enrolled within the parent’s account.

The academic success of our Micro School students is our highest aim and purposes—even ahead of spiritual and social outcomes. We are a school, first. All Micro School students are provided with their tuition the following accredited services. We can’t force students to take advantage of these services, or to complete assignments and projects, but if parents require it, they will progress academically, and at the pace needed to be ready for High School.

Services include:

  • Grading/Feedback on all assignments/projects submitted.
  • Supportive math and writing labs where students can get help from qualified tutors when needed.
  • Semester-end grade cards and course progress tracking within the Micro School platform.
  • Daily (Mon-Thurs) live class experience guided by a qualified Learning Coach.

The Mon-Thurs live, coach-led Micro School class provides an opportunity for students to learn in an engaging, interactive—and frankly—really fun environment, each day. Each session is approximately 90 minutes and is provided for each course on the platform (except math and language arts). Micro Schools are organized by proximity and time zone, so that as students get to know each other and form friendships, they are more likely to transition from virtual experiences to in-person ones. Of course, proximity and total enrollment in a given area impacts this significantly.

Each Micro School follows the following format, although Learning Coaches are trained to follow the Spirit as they introduce additional concepts, have discussions, invite sharing, and provide additional learning activities.

  • 8:45–9:00: Social Time
  • 9:00–9:05: “Review It” Game (Team-based)
  • 9:05–9:15: Opening Devotional (Prayer, Thought, Recitations, Student Highlight, etc.)
  • 9:15–9:45: “Learn It” Video Review and Paused Interactions
  • 9:45–9:55: “Connect It” Video and Paused Interactions
  • 9:55–10:00: “Apply It” Video Review, Student Sharing, and Q&A
  • 10:00–10:10: Break and/or StartRight Fitness Exercise with Coach Yahosh
  • 10:10–10:15: Post-lesson Quiz and Family Message Review (if any)

No, we don’t require student work, but we strongly encourage it. If students are not prepared for class, it is difficult for them to be actively engaged and to contribute to discussions and sharing, which can even result in students being more disruptive. Although students are required to submit student work related to projects and assignments, we have high standards for student self-government in class.

Our hope is that all Micro School students be fully involved and self-governed in their academic and spiritual success. Completing product-based learning activities and optional math and language arts assignments will help them achieve this.

At American Heritage School we hold a high standard for student self-government. We expect students to abide by the agreed upon Micro School honor code and participation agreements when participating in a Micro School during any of the provided experiences. Students who aren’t able to govern themselves will be removed from the daily live experience. Repeated disruption will result in unenrollment from the live experience and communication tools (chat/meeting rooms), and student may continue independently. The consequences for disruptive or inappropriate behavior will be managed by Learning Coaches in counsel with program leadership.

No. This live experience is not recorded for later viewing and participation. During these classes we are discussing, sharing, playing games, competing, and celebrating learning in highly participatory ways. Therefore, we don’t post recordings. However, Micro School course content is available at any time once it has gone live on their personal dashboard and can be reviewed at any time thereafter.

No. This would be disruptive to the Learning Coach and class to have new students as a daily occurrence. If students miss their class, they can still independently review the content learned by their Micro School class in order to catch up before their next class.

There are a few rules we have for participation in the daily Micro School class, so that they are safe, orderly, effective, and fun!

  • Every student needs to use a device with a camera to join the class and must have their camera on for the entire class. This helps us make sure only registered students attend class and helps facilitate participation and new friendships. No exceptions.
  • Students may only unmute themselves when they have raised their virtual zoom hand and their Learning Coach calls on them to share or gives them permission to unmute without raising their hand.
  • In order to maintain an uplifting atmosphere, we require students to follow  the For Strength of Youth pamphlet, especially as it relates to dress and language.
  • Bullying, swearing, or other disrespectful or inappropriate language is not tolerated in a live class or any live experience on LiftEd.
  • When chat is enabled, spam and any other inappropriate or distracting messages are not tolerated.
  • Speaking out of turn or any other disruptive behavior is not tolerated.

Students who violate these rules will typically be reminded once, then removed from the class for the day if the behavior persists. Parents will be notified when this occurs. Repeated violations may require permanent removal from the live class experience.

Yes, AHS Worldwide, along with the AHS AF and SLC campuses, are approved vendors for UFA! Qualified participants may use UFA funds to pay for memberships for Family School and Micro School tuition.

Yes, your student can graduate and receive a high school diploma with AHS Online.

AHS Online diploma seeking students must:

  1. Purchase the Graduation Package yearly ($200) in 9-12 grade.
  2. Take at least 25% of all courses required for graduation through an AHS campus.
  3. Take at least 3 two-semester courses with AHS Online during their Senior year.
  4. Complete/pass 27 credit hours before the graduation date.
  5. Complete the following required courses at AHS Online: Constitutional Studies, Principles of Leadership, Senior Thesis, and Experiential Learning.
  • The purchase of a graduation pack includes:
    • A yearly updated graduation plan
    • Academic advisement each semester (optional)
    • Transcript services
    • Graduation services (Senior year)
    • A $200 yearly fee
  • Yes! Our courses are based on a curriculum that has been developed through 53+ years of success. We use the same methods (4-ring and F.A.C.E.) as our brick-and-mortar campuses.
  • AHS includes teachings of the restored gospel throughout our academic curriculum.
  • New students must sign a commitment to our Honor Code and meet with admissions staff member.
  • Non-Credit independent study courses have a base cost of $99-$119, with an additional cost of $11 for Math and $49 for science classes.
    • This option includes student access to course materials for 6 months.
  • For-Credit independent study courses have a base cost of $329, with an additional cost of $11 for Math and $49 for Science.
    • This option includes homework grading, personalized feedback, and accredited transcript services.
  • Depending on the courses and mentoring, the cost for 7 courses will be approximately $2135.50 per semester, plus a one-time fee of $200 for the grad pack for credit seeking students. (Now we only need 6.50 credits; 25 credits total needed graduate now. Last year it was 27.5!) Year total: $4,477 plus licensing fees ($11 for math and $49 for science.) For non-credit seeking students the cost will be between $643.50 and $773.50 per semester depending on the courses.
  • Unfortunately, we do not currently offer discounts. However, as a non-profit organization, we strive to provide education at the most affordable rates possible.

  • MyPace courses: No. You will have 1-6 months to complete an this course, at your pace. (Students will not receive credit if the course is completed in less than one month or more than six months. A one month extension may be purchased for $50).
  • MyPace courses start date begins on submission of the first assignment. End dates are calculated from that date. (e.g. If course is purchase Aug. 1st, and the first assignment is submitted on Sep. 21st, the MyPace course start date will be the 21st of September. End date will then be 6 months from Sep. 21st)
  •  A one month extension may be purchased for MyPace courses for $50. Otherwise, they will need to pay for the course again and repeat the course.
  • Courses will be available for enrollment in June of 2024.

GENERAL REFUND POLICY: If a student drops a course within 15 days of starting the course, they may receive a 75% refund from AHSO and no record will be placed on the transcript. MyPace courses are 75% refundable within 15 days from course start date.

  1. If a student drops a course 15 days after the start of the course, no refund will be provided.  The course will show as WP or WF on the transcript, (WP for passing and WF for failing), depending on their grade when they drop the course.
  2. If a student exchanges one course for another within 15 days of starting, there is no monetary impact and no record on the transcript.
  3. If a student exchanges one course for another after the first 15 days of the course start date, a student will need to pay a $30 change class fee (administrative fee), and the dropped course will show as WP or WF on the transcript. (We do NOT suggest students make a change this far into the course.)
  4. A 100% refund will be issued if it is within 48 hours of registration.
