Character Core Units: Music & Communications

Upper Elementary and Middle School

We’re excited to introduce our upcoming Communications Counts course for upper elementary and middle school! In this course, students will build practical skills to listen well, speak with confidence, and strengthen relationships at home, school, and with friends.

Through fun activities and a “Gab Lab” journal project, students will practice starting conversations, showing kindness and inclusion, setting healthy boundaries, and handling difficult conversations with respect. They’ll also learn strategies for resolving conflicts and using positive self-talk. By the end of the course, students will have a toolkit of communication skills they can use every day.

As a reminder, we’ll be following the standard flipped class format for the rest of the year, so please encourage your student(s) to review the lesson material before class. See you next Monday!

Lower Elementary

In Unit 1 of Music in a Beautiful World, a music appreciation course, lower elementary students will hear a little music every day to nurture their divine sense of beauty through four centuries of musical genius. From the timeless melodies of Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms to the stirring classical guitar of Rodrigo, students will immerse themselves in sounds that inspire and uplift. By exploring the history of Handel’s Messiah and the magic of Mary Poppins, children will discover that every creature, including them, has a vital place in the world’s choir.

Language Arts

STAR Assessments are open for one more week! This is your final opportunity to complete testing before the window closes on March 13. STAR provides valuable insight into student progress and helps guide instruction for the months ahead.

Be sure to sign up for a monitoring time, or log in and complete your assessments soon—we don’t want anyone to miss out!

Please reach out to Melanie Norman at mnorman@ahsworldwide.org if you have any questions or have not received your students’ test reports.

Virtual Service Event

Join us on March 27 at 1:00 PM for a special Virtual Service Event!

Here’s how it works:

Kids will complete a simple act of service right from home — things like writing uplifting letters, drawing pictures for seniors, putting together mini hygiene kits, or doing a kind act for someone in their own house.

Afterward, we’ll hop back on Zoom and let students share what they did and why it mattered. They can show photos, short videos, or the finished project.

Want to be featured in our “Kids Making a Difference” slideshow? 📸
Have a parent help you upload a photo of you serving here by March 24: https://we.tl/r-iRyl8uyoWz

We’ll wrap up the event by showcasing all the amazing acts of kindness submitted.

It’s going to be a meaningful, gratitude-filled hour where our kids get to see how even small acts can make a big difference. We can’t wait to see you there!
